‘I’m really worried’ fret Coronation Street fans as soap ‘loses its way’ and becomes ‘no fun to watch anymo…

Corrie fans have demanded that ITV sort out the show’s storylines – or else there could be dire consequences

CORONATION Street has received backlash from its viewers, who are worried about the show’s future.

The long-standing ITV soap opera has been a staple on British TV since 1960.

Ahead of tonight’s outing, Corrie fans have taken to social media and complained about the latest string of episodes.

Taking to X (Twitter), a diehard Corrie fan tweeted: “Adore Corrie. Watched it forever alongside Enders.

“This is the first time in ages I’m really worried about the show. They’ve lost their way and almost have a checklist of diseases and topical issues to tick off.

“I feel like they know loyal fans will watch it regardless (me included).”

They added: “Which isn’t fair to its viewers. It was once the most exciting and funny show on TV.

“I remember storylines that would grip the nation. These days, I’m finding it hard to defend it. Sort it out and go back to being the iconic show you are!”

Replying to the post, another fan said: “You can have drama where things happen to people without one nice person being totally manipulated or crushed.

“Stories involving people facing situations together. Corrie repeatedly has a nice person alone and destroyed for months (Roy, Yasmeen, Liam), and it’s no fun to watch.”

A third user agreed: “I agree but I don’t think fans can take much more.  After 63 years seriously considering switching off.”

A fourth echoed: “Stopped watching around time Sarah-lou was convincing Adam she was pregnant, but it was other guys, and Stephen was ongoing round offing people! I heard he got killed later but had dragged on too long.”

Someone else followed it with: “I imagine it’s even more apparent considering how strong #EastEnders is at the moment.

“Honestly wish more than ever ITV had the courage to do a Soap Awards this year because perhaps Corrie getting absolutely shunned in every category would be the kick up the a*** they needed.”

However, some fans of the show were hopeful as one commented: “I don’t mind Corrie tackling serious storylines same as the other soaps, but they need to find the right balance again between drama and humour. The latter has been badly lacking the last few years.

“Hopefully, we’ll see this with the new producer taking over.”

A second followed it with: “Sadly, this is what soaps often are now – plot-driven stunt fests with poorly told issue plots and shock value social media trends.

“I don’t feel like ITV cares at all about Corrie now, but if they do the episode order needs to be cut ASAP.”

“It needs to go back to four single episodes. Three double ones is too much,” advised a third viewer.

Over 60 years ago, Corrie was reluctantly commissioned as a twice-weekly stop-gap until a new programme could fill its airtime.
